Video entitled " What the eradication of Rinderpest virus taught us about the Serengeti". In the mid-1960s the buffalo and wildebeest populations of the Serengeti plain in East Africa began to expand. The beginning of this expansion coincided with vaccination of domestic cattle for Rinderpest virus. Eradication of the disease in domestic cattle eliminated the virus in wild populations, too. The expansion of the wildebeest population was associated with a cascade of other changes to the ecosystem. These other changes illustrate the complexity of trophic cascades.
