Writing and publishing research-based news articles: Tips, tricks and trade-offs

As a researcher, it is beneficial to disseminate our research widely for to ensure our research is read by a wide audience, especially our stakeholders and promote progress in our field. It also improves our research following and means our scholarly journal articles are more likely to be read by new audiences via hyperlinks. These improvements in readership can be measured through Altmetrics. Despite the rewards, writing for these publications is quite different so targeting specific publications requires thought and planning. In this presentation, tips, tricks and trade-offs are shared, including how to utilise the skills of your Faculty Media Officer and how to utilise social media platforms.<p></p>
