<p>Join us as we learn about Forever Chemicals from Jeff Bates, Ph.D., CHMM, Professor for&nbsp;Environmental Science.</p><p>“Forever chemicals” (Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS) include thousands of different compounds that have been used for decades.&nbsp; There is an increasing concern due to the persistence of these compounds, with PFAS found throughout the environment and in most Americans.&nbsp; Learn more about the environmental and human health risks of PFAS during this talk.</p><p>***</p><p>Professor Bates is a geologist/environmental scientist and educator with a background in environmental site investigation and remediation. His experience includes hydrology (including groundwater and surface water modeling), soil science, geotechnical investigations, GIS, solid waste, hazardous materials management (DOT shipping, RCRA, and OSHA), water treatment, and occupational safety and health (especially HAZWOPER). His skills include technical writing and project management. Jeff's degrees are in geology and is a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager.</p>
